Just wanted to add here, for contrast, that my daughter's "pass" of her baked egg challenge had her TOTAL consumption for the challenge at still considerably less than what your allergist wants to dose your DS with. We've done daily dosing that amounts to ~1/120th of a standard large egg.
So I think it probably is do-able for your family, too, based on your challenge. Yes, the first few weeks are REALLY scary, but I'm so glad that I didn't let my fear talk me out of it.
We've seen this be something like a miracle, really-- DD's sensitivity is absolutely less than it was a year ago. She tolerates actually eating in a restaurant now, and we've given her pasta that was made on shared lines with egg for the first time in nearly ten years.

No, I don't think it was psychosomatic, but the allergist questions it. They're saying it's not really an allergic reaction with no other symptoms though. But then she said that she finds the stomachache is the late to go when a child is outgrowing. Who knows...
I've decided to give him 1/2 a mini muffin after school today. I don't want him to get sick before school or before bed. I'll let you know how it goes!
Thanks so much for your support!!

I keep looking at the Ziploc of cookies that says "Cookies w/egg" on the counter. The words keep morphing into "Cookies w/poison"...it makes me feel sick.

So I opted to play it really safe and only gave him 1/4 of a mini muffin. I'd rather start small and increase, rather than have him puke and go back. So far so good..it's been 2 hours.
What is that, like 1/192 of an egg? Hey, it's "traces," right?

So how did it go for the rest of the evening?
Any problems today?

Just chiming in to say - you are off to a great start!
FYI - if you want to cook longer, make quick breads rather than muffins. Most recipes for gingerbread or banana bread, etc., cook for 45 minutes to an hour.
Or - of course - make CMDeux's brownies.
Just to keep you going - 18 months ago we started off just like you: little bites of overcooked gingerbread. Last night I made breaded chicken cutlets made with egg and milk and sauteed in butter. No reaction! I think we are really getting there as the milk and egg in that dish were NOT baked and were barely cooked. A long, long way from the days when we had big reactions to traces of either milk or egg. Fingers crossed that we will all have a virtual eggy-cheesy party some day soon.
Keep up the good work!
Sue
PS - I still also get the same feeling that there is poison in my fridge.

Well, he didn't throw up! And, no other reaction. But this morning he reminded me that his stomach didn't like it.
Do your kids ever complain of just a stomachache? I was thinking of trying a non-egg muffin today to see what he says, but I don't want to miss out on the dose. Thoughts?
suevv - thanks for chiming in! And congrats on your progress - wow! Great words of encouragement. I can't imagine ever getting to where you are today, but pray that we do!

Ree, I would definitely let him know that he'll need to eat a little bite of something every afternoon...
and that SOMETIMES there will be a tiny bit of egg in the item... and sometimes there won't be. Blame the doctor, if you like (since you said they were pretty convinced it could be psychosomatically derived), but I'd let him in on the fact that NOT ALL of it will have egg in it.
That may let him just relax... and if nothing else, it will tell you whether or not he's having symptoms which correlate with egg or not.
This is the contruction that DD's challenge followed originally. Once she realized that we were paying attention to "real" symptoms, but that she needed to not psych herself into experiencing stuff that wasn't real, we haven't needed to go back to offering a placebo control.
But she's almost 12, too-- so her maturity may make some difference, I'm sure.

Today was MUCH easier! He came home from school and I handed him the 1/4 muffin. He just popped it in his mouth. His little brother asked what it was and he said "It's my egg for the day," and then he ran off to play.
I haven't asked him or paid much attention to him b/c I don't want him to think about it. So far so good!

Well, maybe I spoke too soon. He complained of a stomachache and didn't want to eat dinner. Didn't throw up though, and he ate about an hour after dinner.
We'll keep at it..

Two steps forward - one back. And, he ate dinner. Perhaps, on time dinner tonight.

Just wanted to post an update. I'm recooking the muffins I made from the challenge (they're frozen and I pop 2 in the oven every few days)...an additional 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Fortunately, he like crusty and slightly burnt
I'm gradually giving him more to try to get him up to 1 muffin daily. Right now, we're at 1/2 muffin and he's tolerating it fine.
I wonder though...if he weren't on daily Zyrtec, would he be reacting??
