I just noticed to today and the Original flavor and Cheddar seem to read safe for PA/TNA. (the chocolate and carmel contain peanuts) They are General Mills and it seems to me that most trust General Mills labeling. I am a little nervous because some varieties appear safe while others do not. Does anyone eat the original or cheddar chex mix? Would you trust the label if it reads safe?

I love GM but I don't think I would risk it. Makes me fear that maybe they aren't labeling as well anymore, hoping it's a different facility..... let us know what you find out.

GM doesn't label for shared facilities, only shared lines. I bought the chex mix but dd never tried it. I really didn't care for it so I didn't buy it again.

I trust GMs labeling, so DS and I have both had the Original and Bold flavors without issue. It does always make me feel weird (mentally not physically!) when I first open a new package. I don't buy it often, becuase we don't like it all that much and my homemade is so much better!

I buy occasionally (not too often because it gets eaten too fast, and instead of healthier stuff). But Ds eats it with no problem.

I have the recipe at home but some of the things I use are:

Corn, rice and wheat chex (or Crispix and wheat chex)
reduced fat CheezIts or goldfish
Cheerios (they shrink and get kinda crunchy - nice texture to replace nuts)
mini pretzel twists or sticks

I can't remember all the ingredients off the top of my head, but I know the coating has butter, worchestershire(sp?) sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, seasoned salt, tabasco sauce (to taste), bacon grease if I have it, etc.

It's time consuming because you have to bake it for a long time and stir every fifteen minutes, but it's oh so worth it - especially warm right out of the oven!

I'll try to get back online tonight at home and post the recipe. If I forget, PM me a reminder...

Ok, here's the recipe.

6 cups Crispix (or 3 c rice Chex and 3 c corn Chex)
3 cups wheat Chex
2 cups small pretzels
2 cups cheese crackers (I prefer reduced fat CheezIts)
2 cups Cheerios
5 Tbsp butter or margarine
4 Tbsp bacon drippings (or margarine if no bacon drippings)
2 Tbsp Worchestershire sauce
2 tsp liquid smoke
2 tsp Tobasco sauce (more or less to taste)
2 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp garlic powder

Mix cereals, crackers and pretzels in roasting pans (I split it between two pans for stirring room). Melt drippings and margarine and add all seasonings to the liquid. Slowly pour over cereal mixture stirring constantly. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes. For the last 15 minutes, keep a close eye on the cheese crackers because they sometimes start getting brown. Spread mix on paper towels to cool (gets crispier as it cools, too). Store in an airtight container.

Hope you enjoy!

It's GM so I trust their labelling. We only but these types of snacks on long car rides or airplane trips.
