My 8 year old has an oral challenge with peanuts on July 11th. In 2005 his level was 9.82. It dropped to 1.94 last year, and is now at 1.06 this year so we are proceeding with the oral challenge per the allergists reccommendations. My child HATES HATES HATES the smell of the stuff so Im really not sure how we're going to get him to try it. Im quite positive there is no way he will consume it after this appointment, but I'd love to get us off of having to tote the epipen around all the time at school and on field trips and such. He's getting to the point he's tired of answering questions and being "different" from everyone else so Im hoping we pass this.
Any suggestions? What to expect aside from a long day?
When DS did his challenge it was with plain 'ol peanuts and he hated them. He made it to 1/2 before his face blew up with hives and his eyes started swelling shut. He complained before that that he didn't like the crunchies in his mouth but I wasn't sure if it was the actual pn or his mouth was swelling and feeling funny.
