My daughter's oral peanut challenge is tomorrow morning at 8am (PST). Because of my high level of anxiety over this challenge, my DH suggested that I just sit this out and let him take DD to the challenge. He said he would keep me updated throughout the challenge. I am seriously thinking about taking him up on his offer. On one hand I'd feel like a terrible mom if she fails the challenge without me there. (She's very much a mommy's girl and she really needs me around when she'd not feeling well.) On the other hand, I am afraid that she'll pick up on my anxiety and get nervous. UGH I can't decide which choice is the best choice for her. What would you do?

That is a tough one! Any way that you can take seperate cars and you can sit in the parking lot or a nearby coffee shop or restaraunt and if she does start to fail you can go in?

This is what I would do...you might need to find somewhere you can pace though (without looking like a stalker).

I work about 5 minutes away from the allergists office. I was thinking of going to work and my DH said he'd call right away if she starts to react.

She passed!! At first I wasn't convinced and wrote a long, over-protective-mom post about why I was skeptical. (face rash that has been there since yesterday and one hive)! Now that we are 8 hours after her last PB dose, this is obviously a passed challenge!
My thinking is that because DD is definitely ana to TN, and that PN and TN are usually cross-contaminated with each other, my avoidance tactics aren't going to change just cuz she's not allergic to PN.
Maybe now she can eat peanut butter from manufaturers that do not produce other nut butters, but I am still leary about other products.
Do those who are alleric to TN eat peanut butter?

CMdeux - why do you suggest grinding my own peanut butter? Is it because it's heathier, or is it because commercial peanut butters like Jif are potentially not safe?
For lack of a better plan, I used Jif for the challenge. I did call JM Smucker and was told they always label for shared equipment. Now that I think about it, there is no way to be sure that Jif gets their peanuts from an uncontaminated source. There's no way to know that any manufacterer is getting uncontaminated peanuts. I think we'll just avoid peanuts all together.
