Of possible use: http://www.learnvest.com/money-tuneup/career/public-relations-for-the-rest-of-us/

That not everyone who has looked at the thread has "liked" the facebook page doesn't mean that not everyone has read the thread.

You're right. I need to remain optimistic. The trained counselor in me was worried that a group mentality was taking place (where everyone assumes someone else is helping and so no one is moved to do anything) but I have to remember that everyone on this board is on here for a reason--because we care about someone with food allergy or need personal support.

If clicking on a facebook page is not your thing I will continue to hope you will do something that fits within your own ability to do something for a greater good.

Thankfully, we have been getting such great feedback from real teen readers who have just finished the book that I am buoyed with hope that it will make a difference.

Thanks for the continued support and any small difference you can make in helping SUNDIAL to end the unnecessary risk taking/death rate in that critical 12-21 age group. Bibliotherapy does work. This is a change worth making!

Given all this discussion on proper publicity and promotion, I hope the moderators and board will not mind if we start a thread in the commercial section that details all our information and in one cohesive spot.

That is one of the steps our publicity friend recommended today!

Thanks again for being so supportive and helpful!

Isn't that what THIS thread was for?

Why a second one?

This is now THREE threads in which links and overt promotion have been placed-- by you.

The site administration has been pretty nice about this-- but YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED TO STOP, and you have been directed to our terms of service. Repeatedly.

Your other thread is not necessary, and it serves no purpose that has not already been served by the previous TWO threads (one a spam post split from another thread, and this one).

Since today's promotional thread has no replies, I'm removing it instead of this one.

This thread was not "cut off" merely moved to the appropriate section of our forum. There's no need for you to "start over" just continue using this thread in it's new location.

From the TOS:
Quote:
You agree to NOT use the Service to:

6. upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or any other form of solicitation, except in those areas (such as Commercial Links) that are designated for such purpose;

In fact, you were told in this thread to continue posting here and to NOT start a new thread. I'm not sure why you feel spamming our forum is a good way to accomplish your goal of promoting your book (unless it's negative promotion your looking for)??

I seem to constantly annoy the moderators for which I am sorry! I was trying to put all the information in one place as recommended by the publicity specialist I spoke to. I thought I was putting the link in the correct place in commercial link!!

Also, that link I had indicating it was a young adult novel did make a difference--as we FINALLY had some emails asking for information about SUNDIAL in high schools and on the blog. I think people were finally reading the message that this is out there. I wish you had left that one up there and deleted this one as that was the result of the help I received by the members here!

I have to say I am disappointed since there were finally results.

Also, you all have all my personal contact information (it is listed on the sundialbook.com site as well)--if there is a problem with reposting the regular commercial link that had everything in one place, I am happy to TALK to someone. What did I do wrong by posting this information in commercial link?? Allergic Living has a link.

I do not know why I If there are too many threads, remove the incorrect ones that were in the wrong place and allow the CORRECT one in commercial link to stand.

This is about awareness and getting the message heard. Thanks in advance for your help.

ONE thread in the Commercial section is appropriate. In that thread, ONE link to your site/product is appropriate. Since you already posted the link to your site/product in the thread you made as "guest" all other links are unnecessary. Since we do not have the ability to merge threads and the other thread contains good discussion, we chose to allow the two threads to stay. However, that means that both threads count toward your ONE link.

In order for a site like ours to maintian integrity, it is important that we have rules and apply them equally. It doesn't matter if we think you have the greatest idea or product in the world or if we think you have the worst - the number of links we allow is not dependent on our subjective evaluation of your product. That's why we allow ONE thread, ONE link - it's fair and not dependent on our opinion.

You post self-promote in this thread daily. I'm sure our members have had more than ample opportunity to consider your book and to find your website, facebook page, blog, etc. if they choose to do so. At this point, ignoring our requests and/or spamming our forum probably isn't going to entice more people to consider your book or visit your sites.

Thanks for explaining your way of thinking to me.

I was simply doing my best to garner help so we could get awareness results and was primarily thrilled when I finally did something that got the book put into two high school reading groups and 24 likes on the book's facebook page from the brief stint when it was done correctly in the commercial section. That is my goal--awareness in the teen culture. I simply want to end these food allergy teen deaths from unnecessary risks and change the environment before my daughter gets there.

I respect that it is your objective to protect your board members and for everyone to follow the rules. Once again, I apologize for trying your patience. I was not trying to be difficult but to get the information to teens. I wasn't clear that there was a one link rule as I would not have intentionally broken it just as I wasn't clear that I should have been in the commercial section from the start. Also, I did not realize you could not consolidate threads.

Thanks to everyone who assisted us along the way. I wish I had done it differently and if I would have if I had known I should have started in the commercial section with one brief post. A lesson learned too late!

By registering at our site you had to agree to our terms of service. By viewing and posting at our site (even as an unregistered guest) the blue box at the top of every page makes it clear that the terms of service must be followed It very clearly states in our terms of service where any product promotion is to appear. You are responsible for reading and adhering to the TOS. Once you chose not to do that, you were told several times what you needed to do to comply.

As for the one link one thread guideline, the TOS is a broad list of our site rules and expectations. Further interpretation of those rules and methods of implementing them develop over time and as situations arise. That's how our general guidelines - when and how the site mods, Committee members, and Admins take action, etc. - develop. All those guidelines, though not specifically spelled out in the TOS, are incorporated into it as the TOS states. In several posts, you have been told to not start more threads and to not post more links (thus alerting you to those guidelines) yet you chose to be unaware of our expectations?

I'm not aware of many message boards that even allow commercial posts. I'm not sure there are any who look favorably upon serial posting and/or spam. I would suggest that any commercial poster at any forum be well acquainted with not only the individual site's rules but also general netiquette before posting.

As a trained counselor, you are probably aware of the necessity of establishing your cultural competence with people in order to communicate effectively. I think you should consider the possibility that you have not accomplished that, and are actually sabotaging your own efforts by not taking the time to understand our community before using a space we consider a haven for your promotional purposes.

The fact that people have read the thread, and not "liked" the Facebook page should be an indicator to you that you are not making a good impression.

It would be a good idea for you to back off the promotional tactics, and try to get to know people in other areas of the board, without mentioning your book. That could go a long way toward establishing rapport and trust. Right?
