Just needing a bit of support, as DS1 is doing a baked milk challenge this Friday and I'm beyond nervous!

I've bought the malted milk cookies, which the allergist said they usually do it with, they are 1% milk powder. These are your typical British biscuits, which are highly baked and crunchy.

DS is completely calm about the whole thing (at least on the outside - don't know if he would admit to being nervous). I've been putting this off for ages, and after reading about so many successful challenges here, thought we just had to give it a try, as any easing of food restrictions would be a blessing.

I'm trying so incredibly hard not to get my hopes up. He has accidentally eaten a bite of things with milk baked in them in the past and had only mild symptoms. But he also has had anaphylactic reactions to more raw forms of milk (age 7 and 11).

I won't be able to concentrate at work tomorrow, and then we are up at the crack of dawn on Friday to head to the hospital.

Sure, the voices aren't real-- but sometimes they have good ideas.

Oh, good luck, Jen!!

I know just what you mean about those nerves. That's exactly how I felt before DD's baked egg challenge. She passed, but it was REALLY low-level-- like your biscuits, it sounds.

Yes, I was surprised at the low level of milk when I read the label. Seems a much lower percentage of milk than others here have been told to use. The allergist did say that they like to start at a pretty small amount for daily dosing and increase very slowly over time.

I just wonder how much they will have him eat on Friday. Do they just keep dosing until they get some sort of reaction?

It depends on the overall goal of the challenge, I think.

Our allergist did NOT push things to that point (of reaction, I mean) but elected to establish a "tolerated" dose that we could manage well at home.

We're not in any kind of rush, so that was fine with us. Better to go slow and steady, we felt, than to risk triggering a major reaction.

Some allergists like to push a little harder on things.

That's really where we're at -- just want to establish what he can handle and do that dose for quite a while before upping it at all.

I'm maintaining a very calm exterior around him, but boy am I feeling wobbly inside!

All the crossed fingers and toes worked, because he PASSED!! Smiley Smiley

He ate a whole cookie over the course of about an hour and a 1/4, and had absolutely no symptoms!

I think he's a bit excited. I think I am too!

Poor guy has to now eat one of these cookies every day.....what a hardship, lol!
