DS does fine for peanut. What I can eat there is very limited with shellfish and sesame, as they didn't have a dedicated grill for shellfish.

I go for dessert, though, and am happy to just eat that. But for a child with your kiddo's allergies, I don't know.

I eat there fine with my nut allergies.

And I always, no matter the location, have had great allergy awareness, so it may be somewhere for you to call and inquire about in the very least. If you don't like the answer, no harm no foul.

We eat there at least twice a month. We love it is safe for ds. He even get dessert there. He always gets a burger without a bun or a steak with french fries. He loves get the dessert. Blue Bell ice cream with crushed oreos, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. We have been to Outback all over and usually the owner will come out and speak to us and use all new products when making his dessert! He is allergic to p/tn/sesame Smiley

I believe we have another thread on Outback. I'll see if I can find it and bump it.

We eat there fairly often; our local restaurant is very good about the FAs.

Found it; it is here: http://allergy.hyperboards.com/action/view_topic/topic_id/11163

There are many other travel threads with info about Outback. If you do a search for "Outback Steakhouse" you will find the other threads --- they have different titles but reading through them you will see the comments about Outback, or, "Outhouse Steakback" as my son calls it. LOL!

Ours stunk and refused to serve DS many years ago. It's gotten better (read new general manager but the serving staff is a bit clueless, "I think our buns have gluten in them").

Now we do have an Outback that is another town over where the manager has celiac. So she had dedicated gluten free fryers for fries and onion blossoms but they have egg, as well as gluten free buns with egg. But I would totally feel comfortable eating there as well.

Oddly enough Carrabbas is owned by the same group and they are not so great with allergies. Even their menus are you can request it but we make no guarantees. Thanks, but no thanks.

99.9% of the time, I would agree on the gluten free menus. I find that if they get gluten allergies, they are generally receptive to other allergies as well.

But the last time I check, Carrabba's has a wonderful gluten free menu with a stipulation in tiny, tiny print that they guarantee nothing and you eat at your own risk. Honestly - tell me you can not serve me safely instead, kwim?

Yes, I understand eating out is always a gamble. But at the same time why go through all the time and energy to say you can produce a gluten free meal but it they don't, suck it up, we warned you. Does this make sense?

We've had good luck at the Outback here but we only deal with pa and tna. Not sure how I'd feel if I had to avoid shellfish since that's right in the same area they fix the other meals. They seem very understanding about pa/tna and the first few times, the manager came to our table and explained how they would be keeping things apart. They don't do that anymore but they do recognize us when we go and although we always remind them about dd's allergies, they seem to already know.

I was wondering about the brown bread they serve. Do any of you trust that? I emailed and got the ingredients but no word on cross contamination.

The argument above reminds me of McDonalds. They go to the trouble of bagging up sundae peanuts to keep pa people safe, but then they go and offer reese's flurries with no safety measures at all. Makes no sense to me. Smiley

I haven't done the bread. I had a manager tell me to stay away from it until I checked it out with corp. I never checked. That was about four years ago though. (Wow, I can't believe it's been that long since I had my first reaction. Smiley ) Time flies doesn't it?

I do miss the bread. If I call on it soon, I will report back.

We've been to 2 separate locations (one in MD & one in FL) and both have been excellent. We deal with milk, egg, pn, tn, sesame & mustard.

We ate at the Outback in VA Beach on our vacation. DD was able to have the bread; she's allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and egg. She was also able to have the Shrimp on the Barbie appetizer, and the Joey Sirloin (with fries).

We had a really wonderful experience there and had a great waiter. We tipped him well, but I also spoke with the manager to tell her what a wonderful waiter he was. So if you live in VA Beach or are vacationing there, go to Outback and look for Travis.

I got this email back:

G' Day,

Thank you for the e-mail. The ingredient statement on our Honey Wheat Bread is:

Thank you for dining with us,

Jennifer

2nd email: I neglected to mention in my previous email that the statement from the company that makes our bread states that there is no peanut or peanut product processed in the same plant as the bread.

I hope this helps!

I thanked her then asked if that applied to peanuts only or if tree nuts were also not in that plant. Thought I would share.

EDIT: Response I got-"Yes, it applies to both peanuts and tree nuts."
