I usually get hives, stomach issues, coughing, tingling lip, and dizzy. But right now my chest is really tight and my throat is funny. I am experiencing no stress and haven't eaten anything in six hours. I guess it could be that I was sitting in nut-exposed areas?

I am holding off on doing the epi because, while it is harder to breathe, I don’t want to go to the hospital.

i think you know what you need to do and it shouldnt involve posting messages here. Look after yourself and manage your allergies as you know you should.

I made sure I followed the doctor's protocol, but with weird symptoms I kind of hesitate. I don’t want to jump on allergy as a explanation, but oftentimes it is.

I used my inhaler and it helped a lot, but I get flustered with making decisions. Especially since the last one went wrong so quickly. I think maybe I just have to assume that it is a reaction and treat it aggressively from the start.

Sorry for asking the obvious. Btw, googling allergic reaction symptoms yields dubious results so if at all possible I like input.

Sure, the voices aren't real-- but sometimes they have good ideas.

Have you tried going over the anaphylaxis GRADING CHART with your physician?

That might help you to determine in a more sort of systemic fashion just what qualifies and what does not. It would also mean that under stress (eg-- during a possible reaction) you are just following the DIRECTIONS, rather than trying to make judgement calls about stuff.

It would allow you to ask your physician about things like this, too--

what if I haven't eaten anything and ____ (single symptom) happens? Do I use my inhaler? Take a benadryl? Use epi?

I understand that as an adult, I sometimes wait out things that I'd treat MUCH more aggressively in my DD. The sheer cost of an ER visit makes me hesitant. For ME, I mean.

It's harder as an adult to make a judgement call. But I really hope you are ok.

But yes, I get chest tightness.

I think I need to be more assertive. I have been told I am just so sensitive in general that allergy management needs to be spot on.

I agree, after paying th hospital bills I am hesitant to think of going to the doctor. I worry about when my coverage runs out and what I will do then.

Chest tightness - like --- does it feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest? That kind of tightness and labored breathing?

Or - like there is something in the center of your chest, that feels like it's pulling little strings attached all over your upper torso pulling them in with tightness?

Regardless, actually, chest tightness or heavy chested feelings and being hard to breathe --- kinda requires a trip to the hospital. Those kind of symptoms can be warning signs for women for bigger trouble or heart issues.

That being said --- my GERD issues and reflux feels like chest tightness (the 'little strings pulling') with some discomfort under my center rib cage that radiates outward from my chest. Scary sh**, really is, but now I know what it is and I'm not having a heart attack --- but it took a few trips to the ER over the years and the correct diagnosis and recognizing the symptoms to be sure.

If there are other symptoms and you think it's a rxn, YES. After having a XC rxn that was going for hours with GI symptoms, I epid when I felt chest tightness.

For DS, spaciness+chest tightness and touble breathing that was not helped with albuterol meant epi (and for him there was no identifiable ingestion).

It was a "can't inflate my lungs" combined with throat tightness and tingling lips. In retrospect there were nuts around, and I am lucky it didn't progress.

yes, it can be but that can also be from seasonal allergies. It is fall right now. Do you have asthma? Even if you don't think you have it you may want to check it out with your allergist because if it is asthma you might want to take meds for it during allergy season. I feel funny in my throat from EAs and get asthma, too. I hope you are OK. Take care.

I was tested and they said my lung function is fine. I wonder if I am getting allergic to the outdoors. I was walking around and just randomly got hives on my arm.

I had been tested for EAs before but only dust showed up. I know my mom is allergic to mock orange blossoms.

When? My lungs are fine most of the time except when my asthma is flairing.
