I've often felt that way. Have had moments of anger in certain situations when I see some kids so carefree at a table full of goodies. Wishing my ds didn't have the allergy thorn in his side.

I feel the same way! Sometimes its so hard. My kids are 5 and almost 3 and ya know, they seem to handle it better than I do. We are dealing w/ milk/egg and DS is also allergic to beef. My nephew is making his Confirmation on Thursday and my SIL called me about the menu - I told her I will bring all the food for my kids, that I will not let them eat food I have not prepared. They don't go to restaurants often - maybe once a year - do you know that I told DS we were going to a restaurant and he could not eat the food, that I would bring his food. I said it was fun just to go out and he was excited and agreed...Now, I am PA/TNA and I need to call the restaurant to check things out....so much fun! I agree that preparing them is important and empowering - my almost 3 yo is amazing - someone sent a treat to school and she said no, she was allergic and asked for a treat from her treat bag! I am so proud of her as were her teachers...they went on and on about how great and smart she is. We all have good days and bad days and the bad days are awful. I remember when DS was 2 and was watching Dora and it was all about ice cream, I cried and cried...

Last night at a school meeting --- feeling down about DD's band program. Food here, food there. Parties for this and that. Trips to DisneyWorld. Trips to ...? other places, can't even remember now.

Just feeling overwhelmed by all the activities that will involve food.

Ah - I sure do understand. Last night at midnight, I was putting finishing touches for safe cupcakes for DS's little b-day party at day care today. And I was so cranky that all the other moms just get to go to the grocery store and buy a dozen cupcakes. AND then for their kids' b-days, I still have to bring in a cupcake for DS. And so on and so on ... and I'm still cranky today b/c I didn't get enough sleep last night.

BUT - others are right. We do eat healthier. AND it could be something worse. AND the kids really are so resilient. We just need to keep reminding ourselves and letting others remind us too.

Thank goodness for this board, yes?

Yes.
This time of year, especially...so many holidays, and they're all organized around food.

Sometimes the best support isn't being told to cheer up or look on the bright side, but just having somebody to cry with 'til you're ready to take a deep breath and start scrambling again. Another reason to love this place. Smiley
